My new podcast, “That’s Just Not True, Starring Hannah Tyler,” was an exciting and fun new take on how I share my passions and knowledge with other people. I had never attempted to make a podcast until now, and it ended up serving as an extremely enjoyable platform that I am thrilled to possibly test out again in the near future.
To create my podcast, first I had to choose a topic. I wanted to use a topic that was entertaining yet informative. Additionally, I wanted the genre to be something that I enjoy talking about. So this left me with the entertainment/gossip genre and the topic of Cancel culture. I decided to delve into the pros and cons of this concept called cancel culture that’s sweeping our society with effects on social media and in the real world.
Next, I had to decide on a format. Will my podcast be hosted solo? Or will I have co-hosts? Will I choose to interview a guest? I knew I wanted to be the sole host/interviewer, kind of like “The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon,” or similar shows like that. Moreover, I definitely needed to add some interest to the show by inviting a guest, that being Evan J. Santiago. I then had to brainstorm a title and create a graphic that drew the eye.
Then, I had to get the right equipment. I went with the ROAD Lavalier Microphones, due to their small and compact shape making it easy to use in any situation. Additionally, it has a great quality of sound. Lastly, I had to come up with a script or a layout of questions I wanted to ask my guest about the subject. I took some time to reflect on Cancel culture and think about the curiosities I held surrounding it.
Through this experience, I learned the ins and outs behind audio and the cruciality of setting. I had to make sure I was in an environment that had little to no background sound. As well as the importance of utilizing quality equipment. You want to make sure that the audience can hear you clearly, and enjoy what they are listening to. That is why I chose entertainment/gossip because it is a popular genre and it is fun to host.
With this experience, I will be able to use my newfound knowledge of using audio equipment and editing softwares for my dream future job making nature and cultural documentaries for National Geographic. I can manage large projects and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Audio helps set the scene for the audience and helps convey messages and emotions. This will definitely be needed for that career.
